DESTINY har framfört sin mörka variant av metal i över 20 år nu, vilket antagligen gör dem till det mest långlivade svenska metalbandet någonsin. Men det har varit lite sisådär med produktiviteten, och nya plattan är blott deras femte. Sedan den utmärkta debuten ”Beyond All Sense” (1985) har de däremot lyckats med bedriften att höja kvalitetsnivån för varje släpp, och nya ”Future of the Past” är inget undantag. Det är deras klart tyngsta hittills, men fortfarande låter det progressivt och tekniskt. Även om jag saknar gamle sångaren Zenny Gram, en förlust som blir särskilt märkbar i de partier där han gästar med stämsång, så gör nyförvärvet Kristoffer Göbel ett mycket bra jobb och imponerar betydligt mer här än i Falconer. Mästerverket på skivan är det episka titelspåret som bara det gör skivan köpvärd.

DESTINY have delivered their dark type of metal for over 20 years now, which probably makes them the most long-lived Swedish metal band ever. Their productivity has been rather low, and the new album is only their fifth. However, after the excellent debut “Beyond All Sense” (1985) they have managed to improve the quality with each new release, and the new album “Future of the Past” is no exception. It is by far their heaviest release to date, but the sound is still progressive and technical. Even though I miss the former singer Zenny Gram, a loss that is particularly noticeable in Zenny’s guest appearances on harmony vocals, the new acquisition Kristoffer Göbel does a very good job and is a lot more impressive in this band than in FALCONER. The masterpiece of the album is the epic title track which in itself makes the album worth buying.
