| The Undiscovered Country BIRGITT 8,5 (10) Another great album by a Swedish Metal band. This time it is "Destiny" who released a very strong metal album. Their sound is not typical Swedish, it sounds more like US Metal stuff with some 70's influences. The album kicks off with one of my favourite tracks called "The Devil in the dark" which would have a good stand on any old Black Sabbath album. Singer Zenny Gram's voice even reminds me a little bit on Ozzy Osbourne's voice on this one...Track two, "Balance of Terror", is a great Power Metal song in a similar vein to bands like Iced Earth plus some Progressive Metal elements which remind me on old Savatage, too! On this one you can find an outstanding chorus with such a high vocal part in it, that I haven't heard for a long time....screaming stuff. "Balance..." is followed by a song called "A Taste of Armageddon" which kicks off with a great accoustic guitar part and a nearly spoken intro before it gets really heavy again. That Sabbath vibes are back here. Good tune as well, this one. "Wink of an Eye", the next song, is another great Power Metal track too, with a great guitar riff due to guitar player Knut Hassel. Zenny's voice on this one can be described as a mix between Udo Dirckschneider (Accept/ U.D.O.) and Bruce Dickinson. Sounds really great! Song number 5 is called "Dagger of the Mind" which I think might be the heaviest and fastet song on this album. It also includes some Trash Metal elements. Any Iced Earth fan would like this one too. Check out the slower elements that are included in the middle part of the song as well.. "By any other way" is next and comes along in the same kind of heavy energy as the song before. Bass player Stefan Björnshog does a fantastic job on this one. His bass seems to be everywhere...Also remearkable are the guitar riffs which kick off after the song has passed the 2 minutes mark. "Tomorrow is yesterday" is following after this and continues in the same kind of heavy vein. Good song. The album is finished off by the title track "The Undiscovered Country" which marks another highlight of this fine album. Very cool guitar riffs, epic metal stuff and strange backing choires on it.. Finally, I have to say that this CD is one of the biggest surprises to
me this year. I like it a lot and I can recommend it to any fan of Black
Sabbath, Iced Earth and probably Savatage (old stuff). Check it out yourself,
you'll like it. |
