Gothenburg’s DESTINY proudly proclaim themselves as Sweden’s oldest metal band. DESTINY was formed in the early eighties and this is their fourth album. This is a comeback of sorts for the band since it’s the bands first album since 1991’s Nothing Left To Fear. I have never heard of this band before and as a result I have never heard any of its previous albums. Anyway, Destiny plays "dark progressive power metal". "The Devil in the Dark", the first track on the album, begins quite badly. The vocals are quite odd and take a while to get used to. Upon further listening I get used to the vocal style. In fact I enjoy Zenny Gram’s vocals more because they are more distinctive. They don’t remind of some Iron Maiden or Helloween rip off as most power metal bands nowadays do. The music is pretty good and some of Knut Hassel’s guitar solos are amazing. One stand out track is " A Taste of Armageddon". All of the songs are quite good but may take a while to get into to. If you are looking for something more than you’re average run-of-the-mill power metal band then check out Destiny.
