THE MIXING OF BEYOND ALL SENSE 2005 IS COMPLETED!
January 8, 2005

Finally, all the songs for Beyond All Sense 2005 are recorded and mixed.
The last three songs that we worked on where Power By Birth, Sacrilege and Sirens In The Dark. Unfortunately there where some problems when we mixed the last song, Sirens In The Dark, and we had to re record all the guitar harmonies in the middle section of the song during the mixing, but now it all sound great.
I will now clear my head for a couple of days before I will listen to the complete album for a final verdict.

FOUR MORE SONGS MIXED!
January 6, 2005

Janne has recorded his final guitar solo.
Four more songs are mixed.
Ode To You, Hang Them High, More Evil Than Evil and Spellbreaker

Ode To You is the new name for the song Please Don’t Go. The music for this song is very old, it’s from 1982. The lyrics are brand new and very good. I must say that the vocals for this song are in my personnel view the best that Kristoffer have ever recorded. Very impressive.

ALL RHYTHM GUITARS AND VOCALS COMPLETED!
2004-12-31

All rhythm guitars are now rerecorded in Studiomega. This means that all the rhythm guitars are finally completed. There is still one guitar solo to rerecord for Hang Them High.
Yesterday Kristoffer was in DRS and recorded all the vocals for the second bonus track Ode to You, formerly known as Please Don’t Go. This means that all vocals are finally completed.

Birger and I have been in Studiomega with Christian Silver mixing the album. So far three tracks are completed. No Way Out (He’s Free), Rest In Peace and Kill The Witch.

Unfortunately one of the tape recorders in Studiomega broke down late last night. Hopefully there will be a replacement for it real soon so that we can complete the mixing before January 7.

Happy New Year!

FINALLY, A NEW STUDIO UP DATE
December 19, 2004

Here is a new studio up date. It’s been a while as we both encountered some technical problems as well as losing some inspiration after the horrible news that Dimebag had been shot and killed on stage. We where all shocked and quite depressed after the incident, especially Janne who is a huge fan both of Dimebag as a guitarist and of his music.
Anyway, this is what we have managed since the last studio report.

Fredrik Olsson, formerly of Lost Horizon, who played live with Destiny recently have also made a special guest appearance on the album. He have record twelve string acoustic guitar for Sirens In The Dark and More Evil Than Evil. He also recorded guitar solos for Sacrilege, Spellbreaker and Power By Birth.

Janne have decided to re record all the rhythm guitars in StudiOmega with Christian Silver to get a heavier sound. This session will start on Tuesday.

Kristoffer have finally finished the lyrics for Please Don’t Go. I have not yet red them but I know that the song will get an other name. He will record his final vocals for the album and that song in DRS with Christer Lindblad some time this coming week.

Birger have been in StudiOmega with Christian Silver to discus the drums sound and other drum related issues.

I have been in DRS with Christer Lindblad editing and transferring the material to DVD’s and delivering it to Kristian Silver at StudiOmega.

There is still a keyboard part for Power By Birth to record.

JANNE EKBERG'S GUITAR SOLOS COMPLETED!
December 7, 2004

I just talked to Janne and he has now completed all his guitar solos. The only thing left for him to record is a rhythm part for the verse of Hang Them High. I have only heard the solo for Rest In Peace yet but that really impressed me and is by far the best solo that we have ever had on that song. I’m looking forward to hear the rest of the solos tomorrow.
If everything goes as planed Fredrik Olsson will record his solos in DRS tomorrow as well as some twelve string acoustic guitars.

The mix is under way as well. Christan Silver has started with the bonus song No Way Out. I will join him in StudiOmega on Thursday.

/Stefan

VOCALS FOR ANOTHER FOUR MORE TRACKS COMPLETED!
December 5, 2004

Last week Kristoffer completed the vocals for yet four more tracks. Spellbreaker, Sacrilege, More Evil Than Evil and the bonus song that used to be called He Is Free, Kristoffer have now written brand new lyrics and the song is renamed No Way Out. As Kristoffer never got to hear the original song the vocals and lyrics are totally different from the original version.
Once again I was stunned when I heard the final vocals of all four songs, that's nine in total so far. Apart from No Way Out who for obvious reasons don’t sound like the original Sacrilege is the song that has changed the most, at least regarding the vocals. A lot of people that have heard the original will be quite surprised, pleasantly so I bet. As usual Kristoffer’s lyrics are impeccable.

Now there is only one more song for Kristoffer to record, the bonus track currently called Please Don’t Go. As of this moment Kristoffer is writing new lyrics and as soon as they are done he will record the song.

So far I am the only one in the band that have heard the final versions but I’m sure that the other guys will agree that Kristoffer once again have delivered more than we could hope for, and our expectations where high. Maybe I should ad that Kristoffer has had total freedom to change the vocals to suit his stile and taste.
Good job Kristoffer.

Unfortunately there is not a lot of time left if we are to keep the deadline to manage the March release date. This means that Christian Silver will start to mix the songs on Monday the 6: th of December in StdudiOmega. As there are a couple of small parts that is not yet recorded we will work in two studios at the same time. In DRS Janne and Fredrik Olsson will complete all guitar solos as well as twelve string acoustic guitars for two songs. There will probably be keyboards recorded on at least one song as well. Hopefully everything will be completed well before X-mass.

VOCALS FOR FOR FOUR MORE TRACKS COMPLEATED!
November 25, 2004

This Tuesday Kristoffer was once again back in the studio to record more vocals for Beyond All Sense 2005. Today I joined him in the studio check out what he had managed so far. Four more tracks where put down. Kill The Witch, Sirens In The Dark, Power by Birth and Hang Them High with some updated lyrics. Now the song makes much more sense.
Over all I must say that Kristoffer sings a lot harder on this album than what he does on Future Of The Past, at least on the verses. On most of the refrains there is a more melodic touch with lots of harmony vocals. All in al a great contrast.

Very exiting and once again a very good job from Kristoffer. When I left he had just started to work on More Evil Than Evil.

/Stefan

VOCALS FOR R.I.P COMPLETED!
October 15, 2004

Finally the first vocals are recorded for Beyond All Sense 2005. Kristoffer started with Rest In Peace and I must say that I’m amazed by the end result. He has made same small changes to the vocal melody as well as adding some real cool harmonies. Unfortunately he got a cold after just one day in the studio. Hopefully Kristoffer will be well enough to continue to record this coming week. I can’t wait to hear the next song. Well done Kristoffer!
/Stefan

MORE GUITARS BY JANNE
June 16, 2004

Today Janne completed most guitars for Sacrilege, Sirens In The Dark and Rest In Peace. Lots of harmony guitars and some wha wha. He still has to do guitar solos and some voice box recordings as well as twelve string acoustic guitars.
/Stefan

ALL BASS FOR B.A.S.2005 DONE
June 15, 2004

Back in the studio once more. The last two days we completed all bass except for the intro for the bonus track “He’s Free” witch we have not decided how to play yet. The final songs where Sacrilege, Rest In Peace and Sirens In The Dark. I also redid the bas for More Evil Than Evil.
Janne record rhythm guitar for the bonus track "Please Don’t go", Hang Them High and most of Sacrilege but he will most likely redo the last one. He also did all the extra guitar work for Kill The Witch, Hang Them High, Please Don’t Go and More Evil Than Evil.
I’m especially happy with the wha-wha on Please Don’t Go and More Evil Than Evil. Finally he recorded his solo for Hang Them High.

/Stefan

MORE GUITARS FOR BAS 2005
May 28, 2004

Mr Murphy is still around…
No bass today as my two twins of one and a half years is very ill. Instead Janne continued with the guitars.
Today ha managed to lay down all the rhythm guitars for two more songs. The first one was Power By Birth witch sound extremely powerful now, especially compared to the original recording of Beyond All Sense. The second one was one of the bonus tracks with the working name “He’s Free”.
We hope to resume the recordings on tuseday.
Stefan

WHAT THE?????
May 27, 2004

Today was one of those days when you really feel like everything is going to be great, and then…
I was pretty sure that I was going to nail the last three songs on the Beyond All Sense rerecording but it didn’t take long to realise that this was going to be one of those days when everything is harder than normal. We only managed to lay down the bass for Sirens In The Dark. Unfortunately, I believe that we will have to redo the intro.

This is really weird because this is not a hard song to play.
Someone must have been messing with our minds… ;)

Stefan

THE FIRST GUITARS...
May 25, 2004

No bass today. Mainly because it, my bass guitar, needs some adjustments and as Niclas is very good at this kind of work he is the man for the job. Unfortunately he wasn't ready in time for today’s recording session.
Not to worry, this only meant that we started to record some guitars instead. As Niclas was still working on my bass Janne took care of the recordings himself. He managed to record all the rhythm guitars for Kill The Witch as well as for More Evil Than Evil.
It sounds very good and a lot heavier than the 20 year old original recordings.
/Stefan

MORE BASS!
May 19. 2004

It took two weeks but yesterday we, Janne and me, where back in the studio again. This time I laid down the bass for Spellbreaker, Power By Birth and, as I suspected, I also had to redo the bass for "He's Free". Now it's only three more songs to do before all the bass is recorded for Beyond All Sense 2004. I will change to thicker strings before the recording will continue, hopefully, next Monday.
/Stefan

FINALLY RECORDING AGAIN!
May 02, 2004

Things never seam to go as we hope in this band. After several delays we have finally managed to start the re recordings of the bass for Beyond All Sense 2004. With Janne as the engineer I started to lay down the bass last Friday. I have abandoned the plan to use a pick and the Rickenbacker 4001. I will save that for an other project sometime in the future when I have some extra time. Instead I’m going back to my Fender Jazz Bass as well as playing with my fingers.
The first day of recording was pretty successful as we managed to record the bass for five songs. Kill The Witch, Hang Them High, More Evil Than Evil as well as the two bonus tracks, He’s Free and Please Don’t Go. As you all know those are the old titles and will change when the new lyrics are written. I’m not sure that I’m 100% pleased with He’s Free. We will listen to the take on Monday when we will continue the recordings. If I’m still not sure we will of course try an other take on that song.

HOT SUMMER, AGAIN
August 11, 2003

Last summer was so hot that we could not work in the studio and it seams that this summer will be just as hot, at least so far. Next year we will have to install an air condition.
Anyway, we did manage to record the bas for the bonus songs. However, we will redo all bas and all guitars for all the songs that we have recorded since completing Future of The Past. The only thing we will keep is the drums. Why you ask?

Well, I have decided to get some new equipment for the studio. After a discussion with Janne we decided that it will probably benefit the songs as well as the playing to start from scratch with both the guitar and the bass. We will look upon the old recordings as pre production.

You might think that it will be a tough job to record 24 songs all over again but we actually feel great about it and are very inspired. I hope that the recordings will start before the end of August.

/Stefan Björnshög

RICKENBACKER 4001
May 18. 2003

As usual we have had lots of delays but finally, it’s time to record some bass. Janne, as the engineer, and me were alone in the studio and quite exited to get at it again.
This time around I have done something that I have never done before. Instead of playing with my fingers, which I have done since I started to play bass, a used a pick. This is a technique that I only practised for a short period so I was kind of worried that it wasn't going to be good enough.
The reasons for the switch to a pick as apposed to the finger playing are first of all that I wanted to use my Rickenbacker 4001. If you are familiar with that bass you probably agree with me that it definitely sounds better played with a pick. An other reason is that I felt that I needed to do something different to get exited about playing again. Finally, I felt that as we are re recording old songs it would be cool to do something different compared to the original recordings.
You can certainly say that I killed my darlings as I in the past always have claimed that using a pick would mean that you lose a lot of feeling. I still feel that it’s quite different, almost like playing an other instrument, but that was the whole point anyway. I have not abandoned the finger playing totally. I will probably use both techniques live.

Anyway, today it was premier for me recording with a pick and I must say that I’m quite pleased with the outcome. We recorded almost all of the bass for one of the bonus tracks, “The Duke Of Darkness”. I only have one part to redo.

/Stefan Björnshög

THE FINAL DRUM SESSION COMPLETED
March 26, 2003

After several attempts we finally managed to get together to record the drum for the last of the bonus tracks. It was just Birger, Janne and me. For this song we only used the bass to back up Birger and it worked really well. We have done that once before and that was on the song "Lead Into Gold", also a bonus track. Janne was of course the engineer, as he has been on all the drum tracks for the two albums featuring re recordings of old Destiny songs. We did two different takes on the song, currently titled, "No Name". I'm pretty sure that we will use the second version.
Now that the drums for both albums of old songs are record we hope to get on with the bas, guitars and vocals real soon so that we can concentrate on playing live again. Beyond All Sense 2003 (the album might get a name change to Destiny) and Found Somewhere In Time will not be available until the new album Future Of The Past is released probably sometime this coming fall. Check out the NEWS section in a week or two.

DUKE OF DARKNESS!
March 6, 2003

Last week we rehearsed "Duke of Darkness". This is a song that Destiny wrote way back in the spring of 1985, just after the recording of Beyond All Sense. This was the last song that Magnus Österman, the original Destiny guitarist, was involved with and most of the riffs are his. Anyway, as we didn't have a complete version of the original song on tape we re wrote, changed it around and re arranged it and now it's quite different from the original version. When Kristoffer ads his lyrics it will be almost a new song.
Birger, Janne and me entered the studio on Sunday 2 of March and recorded the drums. They turned out excellent and the new arrangements proved to be very successful.

Now there are only drums for one more song to record before all the bonus tracks are completed.

/Stefan Björnshög

DRUMS AND MORE...
February 15, 2003

Since the last time I wrote here we have rehearsed the bonus tracks quite a bit. So far we have managed to record the drums for “Istanbul” and “Lead Into Gold”. Unfortunately we have had a very busy life outside of Destiny so we have not proceeded as fast as I had hoped. Hopefully things have slowed down a bit now so that we can go on with the last recordings and soon concentrate on playing live again. That’s what we all are looking forward top at the moment.
Anyway, Kristoffer have started to write the lyrics for the six bonus tracks. It’s impossible to work out what Håkan Ring sang on the original rehearsal room recordings from 1985 and no one has any copies of the original lyrics. This is actually not a bad thing as it will make the songs a cool mix of Destiny from the eighties and today’s Destiny. I’m sure it will improve the songs quite a bit as Kristoffer is very good at writing lyrics. To recreate the six bonus tracks is actually very exiting.

NEW REHEARSALS (WITH MURPHY)
January 20, 2003

Finaly we are back in the studio after the X-mas and New Year hiatus. All but Kristoffer atended the first rehearsal tusday 14. Unfortunutly Janne dropped his wonderful Gibson Les Paul in the floor so that the neck broke. After that the spirit was kind of low. We started to play Lead Into Gold to show Janne the changes that we had made and he really liked them. After that Janne left while the rest of us talked a bit befor playing the song a couple of more times before leavingas well.
On thursday the 16 Niclas could not come to rehearsals as one of his kids got sick. Birger, Janne and me started to learn "Istanbul" wich is the working title for the second bonus track. This went really well and we didn't change anything in the song (yet) from it's original form.

Saturday 18 we entered the studio 09.00 in the morning. Niclas was still not present. We ran through "Istanbul" a few times before concentrating on the third bonus track, "Duke Of Darkness". This was a lot harder as I only have an incomplete very poor recording from an old rehearsal in the spring of 1985. The beginning of the song is lost and the sound quality is very bad. Anyway we changed quite a few things around even though the basic riffs are still there. It will probably turn out to be quit different but still very good. As far as I remember we only played this song live once. So unless you where at that gig no one will know the difference from the original. ;)
Before leaving we did a rough recording of the songs as we wont rehears again until next week. Hopefully the whole band will be there then.

REHEARSALS
December 19, 2002

No recordings this week, but we have started to rehears one of the remaining bonus tracks called "Lead into Gold". The song was originally intended for the second Destiny album and was written in 1985. It has been preformed live at least three times the same year. It is not yet decided if we will use the original title and lyrics or if we will rewrite them. The music will be slightly rearranged but for the most part it will stay true to the original. This song has never before been recorded except for some poor rehearsal cassette recordings and live video footage.

MURPHY IS BACK!
December 9, 2002

Last Wednesday we didn't get to record any vocals as we had a problem with the microphone that we wanted to use. This coming Wednesday we won't record any vocals as Kristoffer is going to have an operation in his mouth. Apparently some of his teeth are growing the wrong way. It seems to be a painful operation. If he feels all right the week after we might do some recording that Wednesday.
Last Saturday Janne and I was in the studio to do a rough instrumental mix of all the old songs that we have recorded so far. Every one in the band will get a copy to evaluate for the final recordings.

/Stefan Björnshög

KRISTOFFER SPEAKS
November 28, 2002

Hello you Rockers!!!
So far, so good, so what happened?? We have just started to record some of the old stuff, finally!!! Better late than ever don’t you think?

We started with “Sirens In The Dark” and “Kill The Witch”. I’m pretty satisfied with the vocals especially on “Kill The Witch “ since that song is in a pretty odd key for me to sing in. I’ll will write some more after the recording of “Hang Them High” next week. Until then….. Russwedania!(?)

/Kristoffer

GUITARS FOR KILL THE WITCH
November 27, 2002

Yesterday it was time for me (Janne) and Niclas to record the solos for "Kill The Witch". The rhythm guitars have been changed and are heavier than the original. Anyways, back to the solos. We devided the solo in 2 parts and I recorded the first part. I'm very pleased with the way this solo turned out. I managed to get a Zakk Wylde feel to it, with some jazz licks mixed in there as well. Kind of an interesting mix. I ended my solo and Niclas harmonized the last note and then went on with his solo. He recorded a couple of different solos. The first solo was very melodic and mellow. We were actually gonna go with that solo but decided that he should try some different ideas. After messing around with different approaches he recorded a killer solo. It starts off with a bluesy feel and then it takes off in that aggressive and fast picking style that only Niclas can do. I'm sure you'll agree with me that this solo is really good when you get to hear it.
Today it is time for Cristoffer to record the vocals and I am 100% certain that he'll do the good job he always does.

/ Janne Ekberg

GOOD NEWS
November 20, 2002

Today Kristoffer managed to get away from his job and entered the studio to record the lead vocals for Sirens In The Dark. He didn't change that much of the original vocal melodies but still managed to put his brand on the vocals. All of the lead vocals are completed and I must say that I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Not that I'm surprised, as Kristoffer is an excellent singer, but the song got a new and fresh feel to it even though it's still quite close to the version from NOTHING LEFT TO FEAR.
We also have some new exiting quire arrangements for the instrumental middle section for the song that we will record at an other time.

If everything works out we will be able to record new vocals for an other song next Wednesday.

/Stefan Björnshög

BAD NEWS
November 14, 2002

Due to some commitments for his daytime work, Kristoffer will not be able to sing on Wednesdays as we planed. Hopefully we will be able to start on the vocals for the re recordings early next year, maybe sooner. In the meantime we will continue to record bass and guitars and probably some keyboards as well. /Stefan Björnshög

NICLAS HANGS THEM HIGH
November 09, 2002

Today Niclas recorded some smoking guitars for "Hang 'em high". He changed the rhythm guitars a bit, and it really made the song heavy. Then we added some harmony parts for the chorus and that took the song to a new level. For those of you who liked the old version, this will make your day. I tip my hat to Niclas for a great performance during this recording session. He was really on fire, and when you hear the final result I think you'll agree with me.
/ Janne Ekberg

NO VOCAlS TODAY
November 06, 2002

Today we were going to record some vocals but unfortunately Kristoffer had some throat problems. Hopefully he will be able to sing and record next Wednesday.
This Saturday Niclas and Janne will record some guitars for Hang Them High. Janne will give you a report hopefully on Sunday.

/Stefan Björnshög

THE RE RECORDINGS
October 27, 2002

Since the completion of Future Of The Past we have continued to work on the re recordings of Beyond All Sense as well as the tracks from Nothing Left To Fear. All the drums for BAS is done as well as most guitars except for the solos. I have recorded the bass for about half the album. The plan is to start recording the rest of the bass tracks this week. Kristoffer will begin the recording of the vocals next Wednesday.
Regarding the songs from NLTF for the other as yet unnamed album, Birger have completed all the drum tracks except for the four bonus tracks.
The last four songs, Nothing Left To Fear, No Reservation, Sheer Death and The Evil Trinity was recorded this October.
As usual we are very happy with the way Birger performed. The songs on both these albums are such an improvement from the original recordings that we can hardly wait to get your response. Unfortunately it will take some time until that will be possible. The next plan is to record the guitars and the bass in November.

Watch this space for more information on a regular basis from the studio.

PHOTO SESSION
March 27, 2002

It’s been a couple of days since the mastering of the album. Last Sunday this line up had it's first ever photo session. As usual we used Kenneth Johansson. We in the band will probably get to see the result by the end of this week and I believe that you will get some new pictures on this home page some time next week.
Soon we will start rehearsing for some coming live dates. We will play songs from all our albums including Future Of The Past! We will also continue with the rerecordings of the older albums in a month or two.

/Stefan Björnshög

AND THE NEW ALBUM IS FINALLY DONE
March 24, 2002

First of all I’m sorry that I couldn’t live up to my intentions to write a piece every day during the final face of the recording and mixing. The reason for this is that we have been working even harder than the last time I wrote. It’s been late nights and long hours every day. We have been mixing during daytime, sometimes at night as well. We have been recording the final vocals sometimes with Janne as the engineer while I was in StudiOmega with Christian and sometimes with me as the engineer late at night after I left StudiOmega. Some nights me and Janne only slept a couple of hours.
A week and half ago Mats Olausson of Yngwie Malsteens band joined us in the studio to record the keyboards for the title track “Future of the past”. This is the only song on the new album that features keyboards. It’s a more than eight minutes long song. It has evolved quite a bit during the recording. Mats used strings, horns and melotron for the three minutes long end piece as well as some other sounds, including moog, for the other parts of the song. It all came out great! Mats is a very nice person and if he is in Sweden when we are going to record the keys for the re-recordings of the old albums he will play on those as well. The song also features quite a bit of harmony vocals as well as some quire like parts. Most of them was recorded by Zenny and Kristoffer together. I must say that this is one of the better songs that we ever recorded even though it will be the last song on the album. Be sure to check it out when the album hits the stores.

We also had some major technical problems that took a lot of time to work out. At one time we had to enter a third studio, Studio 214, only to find out that we got new problems. When it was Saturday morning we still hadn’t finished and by this time an other band entered StudiOmega and we had to delay the mixing of the final song “Future of the past” as well as the intro for “Angels” formerly known as “Murphy’s Law”. We actually had to re-record all of the intro as the guitars was not good enough.

On Tuesday we once again entered StudiOmega. It took us almost three days to mix the song and the intro. Partly because we had to start over again and partly because we had more technical problems. Finally around eight thirty, Thursday evening, we where done, just I time for Impious to enter the studio the next day.

Nine a clock in the morning Christian and me entered Digitalfabriken to master the album. Christians partner Manne who had been with us most of the time during the mix was there as well. We added some special effects for three songs as well as piecing together the intro with the rest of “Angels”. The order of the songs was rearranged a bit as well.

Of course every time you make an album you feel that it’s your best album so far and In Destiny’s case it’s been true. After all this time you can hear a clear progression from one album to the next, only this time we took a gigantic leap. “The Future Of The Past” is by far the strongest album on all levels that Destiny has produced so far. I wish we could get it out in the stores right now…

Anyway, here are the song titles in the running order of the album. Maybe we will give you a MP3 version of a song soon…

1. Holy man 2. Sabotage 3. In The Shadow Of The Rainbow 4. Magic Forest 5. Angels 6. Flying Dutchman 7. On The Outside 8. Ghost Train 9. Future Of The Past

THE MIXING HAVE BEGUN
Mars 12, 2002

It’s Tuesday morning and the last two nights I haven’t slept for more than seven hours all together. But I’m not complaining because it means that we will finally be done with the new album. Not yet though.
Last Sunday me and Kristoffer recorded the final vocals for four more songs while Janne was editing The Flying Dutchman, Magic Forest (formerly called Evil Moon) and Holy Man (formerly called Murphy’s Law). After the recording session Kristoffer and me teamed up with Janne so that we could go over those three songs to make sure that everything was ready for Christina Silver to mix them.

Yesterday, Monday, I went to StudiOmega where Christian was working on the mix of The Flying Dutchman. We had some problems but over all it sounded very promising. After eight hours I had to go back to Gothenburg to record the final vocals for On The Outside (formerly called The Forrest) but before we could start recording we had to listen to the text mix of The Flying Dutchman. Janne and Niclas was pleased with most of the mix while Birger and Kristoffer wanted to change a few things. After a couple of phone calls to Christian Me, Kristoffer and Birger where ready to record the vocals while Janne and Niclas started to edit and clean up all the guitar tracks. We where finally done around 2 am.

Now it’s time for me to go to StudiOmega again.

/Stefan Björnshög

ADDITIONAL VOCALS
Mars 10, 2002

Yesterday was a very enjoyable day. First me and Niclas went to StudiOmega to pick up some equipment and of course to talk a bit with Christian Silver. When we got back to Gothenburg and DRS we got together with Janne and listened to the guitar solos that they recorded the day before. I was very impressed with them and I’m sure that you will be to. Actually, not all the songs features a guitar solo. Some time it’s just a melody played by the guitar which is some thing new for Destiny. Most of these parts where recorded by Fagge before he had to leave the band.. Very dynamic in my opinion.
Later that day we brought in to singers to help out with a dark quire, Fredrik and Zenny. Yes it’s Zenny Gram, former lead singer of Destiny. It was good to se that Kristoffer and Zenny got along great both on a professional level as well as on a personal. Zenny and Fredrik sang the dark vocals in Future of the past and Fredrik also recorded some death metal like vocals for an other song that definitely is not a death metal song, don’t worry. We where all extremely impressed with Fredrik’s very deep voice.

For a while Birger was in the studio as well to give his opinion about the vocals for Future of the past. When he had done that he left as did Fredrik. Janne also left to go home and edit some of the songs in his computer. Kristoffer, Zenny, Niclas and me stayed to try to record some quires for the refrain of Future of the past. After a couple of hours we realised that this particular idea would not work so we decided to quit for the night.

FUTURE OF THE PAST NEAR COMPLETION
Mars 09, 2002

Hi, I’m back… a lot has happened for us in Destiny since the last time I wrote here. On a personal note, I have been ill of and on most of the time during December 2001 – February 2002. This of course led to some delays with the recordings.
Anyway, Ill try to remember all that has happened the last three months.

First of all, we decided not to complete BAS 2002 before we had finished FOTP. Unfortunately Kasper did not work out and we had to complete the recordings by our self. Most of the engineering duties have been done by Janne, Christer Lindblad and myself. Kasper will not mix the album, instead we will return to Christian Silver and StudiOmega in Bollebygd where we recorded TUC.

Niclas has been away in an other city for a couple of weeks to finally get his drivers license. Congratulations! Unfortunately, he to was ill a couple of times. More delays.

Birger got a new job as music teacher at a school in Angered and therefore could not work as much in the studio that we would have liked. Being divorced with three children every other week did not help either. Of course we all understand that he both want and must spend time with them. More delays.

Janne broke up with his girlfriend which some what depressed him for about a week but he soon bounced back.. He to was ill a couple of times. More delays.
Apart from that I must say that Janne has been fantastic and is very much responsible for us getting this far with the recordings.

Kristoffer have been working on the lyrics and vocal melodies as well as being ill a couple of times. More deleys. The Swedish winter is not god for your health.

When Kristoffer finally had completed the lyrics for FOTP nine songs we started to record them. Birger proved to be an important part of the producing of the vocals. Most of the vocals was recorded with only Kristoffer, Birger and me in the studio and this have proven to be a very creative unit. We did changed a lot of the vocal melodies but only in small details. Most of Kristoffers original ideas are still there. Of course the vocals are quite different both in melody and sound compared to what Zenny used to do when he was in the band but I still think that it sounds very much like Destiny. The vocals are very good and as of today we only have one song left to record. Not counting some additional vocals on three songs.

We have also managed to cancel two photo sessions as we had to record instead. That’s is why there haven’t been any pictures of the new line up yet. Next photo session is scheduled for Sunday but I believe that we will have to cancel that one as well. Maybe next weekend.

A couple of weeks ago a former girlfriend of Janne joined us in the studio to record some vocal parts of a siren in The Flying Dutchman. It sounds really good and gives the song that little extra. Come to think of it, some of the old titles have changed since the lyrics where completed.

Yesterday Janne and Niclas recorded their last guitar solos. I have not yet heard them as I had to go to StudiOmega when they where recording them, but as they themselves where very satisfied I’m sure that I will be that as well. Anyway, I will here them later today.

Hopefully, today we will also be able to hear a test mix of The Flying Dutchman that Christian Silver was supposed to complete yesterday. If it all works out he will start mixing the first songs at StudioMega on Monday. At the same time we will have to complete the last song, Future of the Past, in my studio DRS. That is the final vocals as well as the keyboards. This is the only song on the album that features keyboards.

I have also been working on the album cover. It will be quite different from our previous covers but still in the same mood. It will probably be constructed in 3D by a vary talented man called Staffan Falkenström of Maks Media. I have seen some of his ideas and it looks very promising. He will design all of the CD booklet as well.

At the moment there is a very big chance that we will be able to record at least one video for the new album, more about that in the future.

Hopefully I will be able to update you on a daily basis until the album is completed at the vary latest Mars 22. After that Impious will enter StudOmega.

NICLAS IS DONE WITH "BAS 2002"...
December 05, 2001

Today I was in the studio with Christer. He tried to fix the problem that me and Janne experienced Monday evening. After four hours everything was all right. At least we thought so...
The plan was for Janne and Niclas to record their final rhythm guitars this evening. Niclas managed to nail all of his but when Janne had recorded his first song the same problem we had two days ago once again happened with the studio. He will try to record again tomorrow.

Anyway, Niclas is now done with all guitars on "BAS 2002" except for the solos and some acoustic guitars. I don't know when I will record my final bass but it will be real soon.

/Stefan Björnshög

KRISTOFFER GÖBEL ...
December 04, 2001

Once again quite a bit of time has passed since the last time I wrote anything here. Since then a lot has happened.
First of all we have had some problems with the equipment in the studio. One thing after an other have broken down. This has of course led to quite a bit of delays of the recording. Even last night when I was going to record some bass something happened that we haven't quite figured out yet. Hopefully we can fix it tomorrow.

As far as the recordings have progressed we have completed all the drums for "Beyond All Sense 2002" including the two bonus tracks. We still have to record bass and guitars for three songs as well as the additional instruments like keyboards and sound effects. The plan is to be done with these recordings at the latest next week. Hopefully "BAS 2002" will be released early 2002.

Kasper have left "Destiny Recording Studio" to build his own studio. We are still friends and will probably continue to work together of and on in the future. At the very least he will complete the recording and mixing of the new Destiny album "Future Of The Past".

A week ago we managed to find a new engineer, Christer Lindblad, for "DRS". He used to work with Fagge before he moved to Stockholm. He is not only a good sound engineer but also very good at repairing studio equipment witch is a pleasant bonus for us. He will actually come down to the studio tomorrow to se if he can figure out our latest problem.

The next step for us is to rehears the five remaining songs from "NLTF" so that we can start to record those after Christmas. When they are done we will rehearse the two bonus tracks. Hopefully these recording sessions will be done at the latest before the end of January.

What about the new singer? Well, the singer I wrote about the last time had some real bad luck. Apparently his throat was taking a serious beating for talking the wrong way. No, I'm not kidding. This led to a two month period when he wasn't allowed to speak or sing. Then he had to relearn to talk in a deeper voice than before. The next step was to relearn his singing technique. He employed the services of one of the best singing teachers in Gothenburg. This all took quite some time.

It was during this period that we completed most of the recordings of "BAS2002". We also got in contact with some other singers and last week we had an audition. The last singer that we tried out was also the by far the best one. As you probably have guessed, he is the one that had the throat problems. Not only had he recovered but he had also improved his singing quite a bit since the last time we tried him out.

Finally after what seems to be an eternity Destiny proudly presents a new singer and his name is KRISTOFFER GÖBEL!

So far Kristoffer have written four lyrics for "FOTP". We will, if the studio is fixed, demo those songs for pre production purposes on Sunday. The next step is to record the vocals for "BAS2002" during December. If everything works out the way we hope we should be able to start the final recording of the vocals for "FOTP" in January.

How is that for an up date? More news to come in a not to distant future...

ACCIDENTS AND AUDITIONS...
August 11, 2001

A month has passed since the last time I wrote here. Things has not progressed as fast as we hoped.
This is mainly due to the fact that our drummer, Birger, fell down some stairs hitting his head and got a mild concussion. This meant that we could not practise or record with him. Actually our first rehearsal since the accident was two days ago when we auditioned a new singer, more about that later.
The good news is that Niclas and his girlfriend got a new baby, their second child. This also stole some time for us but that was of course perfectly all right. Congratulations Niclas.

As we never got around to rehearse Sacrilege and Rest In Peace me and Janne started to learn the music to the two bonus tracks that will also appear on the re recording of Beyond All Senses.

The first song was originally record for a demo tape way back in 1983 when we had a girl, Therese Hanseroth, as a lead vocalist in Destiny. The music still holds up but I believe that we will re write the lyrics. The song used to be named Please Don’t Go. So far we haven’t decide what the new name or lyrics will be.

The second song, written by John Prodén and Håkan Ring, is actually a reject from when we recorded Beyond All Sense in 1984. As I recall I didn’t like it at the time but I do now. We have never recorded it before but it has been preformed live several times before the release of the first album. Lucky for us I had a poor recording from one of those concerts. We have changed a few things but mostly we play it like it was originally written. I’m not sure how we will handle the lyrics but we will probably use the originals even though we will change the name of the song from He Is Free to something else.

Anyway, me and Janne have recorded some basic bass and guitar with a click track for Birger and Niclas so that they can learn and rehearse the songs at home. The songs are quite basic so it will not take to long for us to record them when we finally get the time in probably about two weeks. It will take that long as Janne will go on a one week vacation on Tuesday. Hopefully we will be done with all the music for Beyond all sense in the first part of September.

About the singer…

My good friend Ken Olsson of Pagan recommended me to talk too some one that he new even though he had never heard him sing, so I did. He turned out to be a great person with very good taste in music.

Me, Niclas and Janne met him almost two weeks ago and we got along great. I had all ready given him our old albums witch he liked a lot, especially Nothing Left To Fear. Now it was time to play the new music which he also liked very much. We gave him a CDR of two songs that he had chosen himself, Future of the Past and The Flying Dutch Man.

Two days later he called me and played a demo of the FOTP over the phone. The melody and lyrics where great. That weekend all of Destiny except for Birger went out to a rock club and had a great time. The singer really fits the band on the personal level and every thing seems very promising. A couple of days later he once again called me and played a demo of the other song. This also sounded very promising.

Finally this last Thursday, two days ago, we decided to try him out in the studio. This was also the first time that the band played together for more than a month. Unfortunately the P.A. was not working properly so we couldn’t really hear the vocals that well. We will rehearse on Monday again and then, when Janne gets back from his vacation we will try to record some vocals to see if everything works out.

I really hope that this is the right singer for Destiny, so far we know that we like his personality, his lyrics and his vocal melodies. What’s his name? Well, we will tell you if he gets the gig. Cross your fingers.

/Stefan Björnshög

GOOD AND BAD NEWS
July 6, 2001

Once again it's been some time since we last updated you on what's going on with the band.
Hopefully I will be able to give you the news of our progress a bit more often from now on.

First the bad news. The singer that we tried out was real god and he was actually offered the job as lead vocalist in the band.

He wrote lyrics for four songs and also recorded demos for them. it sounded real good. Unfortunately he has some personal problems in his life at the moment and it seams unlikely that he can or will commit to Destiny at this time. No doors are closed but we have to go on witch means that the search for a new vocalist goes on. If you know of any suitable singer please contact Destiny at: destiny@bahnhof.se

Now for the good news. Three weeks ago I finally moved back to Gothenburg, which means that we now can speed up things a bit as we can work together all days of the week.

So far we have recorded the drums for two more songs from Beyond All Sense, More Evil than Evil and Power By Birth!

On Sunday we will record the guitars and the bass and on Monday we will start to rehearse Sacrilege.

For me personally it's great to recreate these old songs, to play and record them in a way that we could not afford all those years ago. It's also good for the new members to ad their trademark to the music. I must say that so far all the songs have come out great and I believe that even though it's quite different from our new songs, it will be a real cool treat for all Destiny fans, both new and old.

ZENNY LEAVS DESTINY!
April 9, 2001

It’s been quite some time since we updated you about the Destiny situation. The reason for this is the bad news I told you about in an other posting. What happened?
Well, unfortunately Zenny Gram has decided to leave Destiny. His reason was the he no longer had the inspiration to put in the amount of time that Destiny needs. He have been working for more than six months with the lyrics for the new album and still wasn’t pleased with what he came up with. Rather than delaying the recording of the album he decided to leave Destiny so that we could get an other singer.

There are no hard feelings feeling's between Zenny and the members of Destiny and we are still great friends. Zenny will probably still do the vocals for the re-recordings of the three first albums and we might even play a farewell gig with him.

The good news is that we have now tried out a new singer that seams very promising. He doesn’t sound like Zenny but he sings the old material real good. He has also record some demo vocals for “Sabotage” and “Lord of the Evil moon” that sounds real good.

I believe that if everything works out well with him he will be a great asset for Destiny. We will do some serious recording with him in a couple of weeks and if they work out the way I expect we will introduce a new singer for Destiny real soon.

/Stefan Björnshög

MORE GUITARS
January 23, 2001

Once again it was time for the guitars, this time by Niclas. His inspiration was no less then Jannes yesterday and he also managed to record three songs in one night. The re-recording of Hang Them High and Kill the Witch as well as Who Am I?
Stefan Björnshög

GUITARS
January 22, 2001

Today it was time for Janne to lay down some guitars. As I wrote before he decided to re-record all of Hang Them High as well as all of Kill the Witch. With A new killer guitar sound inspiration was on a high and before the recording was over he had also recorded all of Spellbreaker.
Stefan Björnshög

MORE DRUMS
January 21, 2001

Today we got some bad news and had to have a big band meeting before we could get on with the recording. When all was solved everyone was in good spirit and ready to get on with it. After we had rehearsed Sirens in the Dark from BEYOND ALL SENSE it was time for a new recording session. It didn't take to long before Birger managed to put down some great drums for Sirens in the Dark. That concluded this weekends recordings.
Stefan Björnshög

DRUMS
January 20, 2001

After some trouble with the microphones for the bass drums we managed to record all the drums for two more songs. Birger wasn’t happy with the first recording of Spellbreaker so he re-recorded all of it. Before we decided to call it a day Birger also managed to nail down Living Dead from ATOMIC WINTER!
Stefan Björnshög

BASS
January 19, 2001

Today I came down to the studio in Gothenburg late around 7.30 pm. Originally we were just going to work on the bass sound. After a little while we managed to get a pretty good sound. As I had been up since 5.00 am I really wasn’t in the best condition to record, never the less I still tried my hand on Hang Them High and Kill the Witch. It came out pretty good but I will most probably redo them next time I’m in the studio.
Stefan Björnshög

TWO MORE SONGS
January 8 - 11, 2001

This week Birger recorded the drums for two more songs. Who Am I? from ATOMIC WINTER and Spellbreaker from BEYOND ALL SENSE.
Niclas and Janne also recorded some guitar for Kill the Witch and Hang Them High. Since the recording they have experimented with their guitar sound. As they where much more happy with the new guitar sound they will probably record them once again. Oh well...

/Stefan Björnshög

BACK IN THE STUDIO
January 2 - 6, 2001

After a long holiday we finally started to rehearse again. Tuesday through Thursday we rehearsed the live set as well as learning two new songs from the very first Destiny album, Beyond All Sense.
This album was only released in Sweden and pressed in a couple of thousand copies. The original recording was very bad and I always wanted to re-record the album. Now that we have our own studio the time has finally come. Anyway the rehearsals was great on Tuesday and Thursday but a bit lame on Wednesday. Unfortunately Zenny could not take part in the rehearsals as he had some private stuff to take care of.

On Friday we started the sound check for the drums. After the usual delays Kasper assisted by Janne managed to get just right.

Saturday was the first time this new line up of Destiny recorded together. When the day was over Birger was done with the drums for Hang Them High and Kill the Witch. Need I say that it sounds a lot better then on the original album. Now I’m looking forward to hear what Niclas and Janne will ad to the songs. They will record their guitar parts later this week.

DESTINY 2001
December 22, 2000

FLOYD CONSTANTIN
December 19, 2000

Last time I wrote I forgot to tell you that JANNE EKBERG now is an official member of DESTINY. Welcome aboard Janne!!! :)
Speaking of guitarists, today I run in to Floyd Constantine. He was one of the guitarists on Atomic Winter. I haven’t seen or spoken to him since he left Destiny twelve years ago in 1988. As we didn’t part being the best of friends I didn’t know what to expect… but I’m delighted to say it was a very positive meeting. Floyd still plays guitar and apparently has a new band going. I wish the best of luck to him in the future and I’m sure that we will run into each other again. :)

Anyway, Destiny won’t rehearse this weekend as Christmas is coming up so I (and the rest of the guys in Destiny, Zenny, Birger, Niclas and Janne)will take this opportunity to wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. 2001 will be the year of DESTINY and you are invited to be part of it!!! :)

/Stefan Björnshög

AND NOW... JANNE EKBERG ON THE GUITAR
December 16, 2000

Today we could only rehearse for three hours but we still managed to ad two new songs to the live set. Beyond All Sense from Nothing Left To Fear and The Devil In The Dark from The Undiscovered Country.
This time everyone was well and full of good health and of course all the songs sounded great!!! Both Nicals and Janne had worked out who should play which solo. I can promise you that Destiny will once again have an excellent dual twin lead guitar attack.

I actually dare to say that Destiny has never sounded better then today. The next step is to work out all the backing vocals. This is the first time that all the members of the band will sing and that will of course ad a new exciting dimension to the Destiny live experience.

/Stefan Björnshög

THE KINGS OF THE COLDS
December 9/10, 2000

This weekend both Niclas and Janne had bad colds and a fever but we still managed to rehearse both Saturday and Sunday. At least for a couple of hours.
On Saturday, we added two more songs to the live set. Sirens in the Dark from Beyond All Sense as well as Medieval Rendezvous from Nothing Left to Fear. Despite the poor condition of the two guitarists it sounded pretty good, or at least promising. ;)

We spent most of Sundays rehearsals working out the tempos for the songs. As we plan to re record all the songs in the near future we feel that it’s important to work out the exact tempos that fits each song. Something that we sadly didn’t the first time we recorded Beyond All Sense, Atomic Winter and Nothing Left To Fear. One of the reasons to redo these albums is to get everything right.

/Stefan Björnshög

THE SECOND COMMING OF JANNE ...
December 3, 2000

Today we rehearsed once more with Janne. This time we played, as well as the two songs from last weekend, Who Am I?, Living Dead and Spellbreaker. It’s just brilliant to have two guitarists in the band again.
No, Janne has not got the job yet, but I will be very surprised if he’s not a permanent member real soon. Apart from being a very good guitarist Janne plays some keyboards as well as singing back up vocals and most important of all, he seems to be an excellent person.

Anyway, back to the music. All the songs sounded great after just two rehearsals (despite Niclas being so sick that he had to leave in the middle of a song to throw up, poor guy). Just think of how good it will sound when we have done some serious rehearsing.

Hopefully we will be able to do some gigs early 2001 with this new dynamic line up. Can’t wait for the new rehearsal next weekend.

/Stefan Björnshög

THE AUDITION
November 25, 2000

All right, today we had an audition with a guitarist that we believe a lot in. His name is Janne Ekberg, a real nice person and a very good guitarist. He comes from a town called Västerås and have studied guitar for two years at GIT as well as a half year of recording technique in the USA. Now he lives in Gothenburg.
Janne was introduced to the band by Niclas who have known him for some time. They get along great witch of course is real promising for a future twin lead guitar attack in Destiny.

We started out by playing Tomorrow’s Yesterday and Dagger of the Mind without any vocals. That went pretty well so we played them again, this time with Zenny singing as well. It was a lot of fun and sounded real good. Now all we needed was to hear Janne play some lead guitar. We played the songs a final time and Janne was improvising some lead guitar that sounded great.

After the audition we sat down to get to know each other. All of us got along real well. Originally we planed to audition several guitarists but, as when Niclas tried out, we don’t feel the need for more auditions as it all worked out so well. However, nothing is decided yet. We will keep playing together for a while and unless Janne or the rest of us have a change of mind I think he'll get the job. Cross your fingers.

Life is good. :)

/Stefan Björnshög

THE CONTINUING STORY...
November 21, 2000

It’s been some time since we updated this page but here we go again.
We have now done most of the pre-production with Zenny. That means that he have tried most of his vocal melodies. They all sound great! As soon as he has completed the lyrics we will start with the actual recording of the final vocals. Hopefully this will begin before the end of the year. In the meantime the plan is to start recording some of the extra instruments, like keyboards and strings.

We have also rehearsed the old songs that we plan to include in our live set. So far it looks like we will include: Tomorrow’s Yesterday, Dagger of the Mind and The Devil in the Dark from TUC. Beyond All Sense and Medieval Rendezvous from NLTF. Who Am I? and Living Dead from AW. Spellbreaker and Sirens in the Dark from BAS.

The plan to re-record the three first albums is finally starting to happen. Niclas and me have rehearsed all the songs from BAS as well as the two bonus tracks never before released on album. We plan to record the bass and guitar before the end of the month. If everything works out this album will be released before the summer 2001. This all depends on how fast the new album, Future of the Past, will be completed.

Finally, this weekend we will try out a new guitarist. Hopefully he will be able to replace Anders Fagerstrand who unfortunately have moved to Stockholm and can’t stay with the band. However, we are still the best of friends and Anders will be featured of the new album.

/Stefan Björnshög

REHEARSING AGAIN
September 2/3, 2000

Unfortunately Kasper had to go to Norway and could not complete the “beta” mix of all nine songs. However we did get six tracks, which we are very happy about.
Saturday we started to rehearse “Tomorrow is yesterday” and “Dagger of the mind” from TUC. It was a lot of fun to play these songs for the first time in a long while. I’m happy to say that Birger’s drumming, as well as Niclas guitars, certainly added some extra power to the songs.

Sunday was the day that Zenny come down to the studio. It was a good feeling when we saw and heard how enthusiastic he became when he heard the “beta” mix of the six songs. Hopefully we will try out some of his ideas for the vocals next weekend.

When Zenny left we started to rehears “The devil in the dark”, it took some time but finally we managed to play through it. It’s quite a tricky song. Anyway, next weekend we will start on three more songs, this time from Nothing Left To Fear!

/Stefan Björnshög

Niclas, Birger and Stefan making’ more faces... NOT!!!! :)

REHEARSING AGAIN
August 26/27, 2000

This weekend Niclas, Birger and me got together for some rehearsing. It was the first time we played together for some time and it was great. This time we only played the new songs but we will soon start to play the older ones as well.
This coming week Kasper will do a "beta" mix of the recordings for Zenny. Then we will regroup with Zenny next weekend for some discussions about the vocals as well for some more rehearsals.

/Stefan BjörnshögNiclas, Birger and Stefan from their most serious side... NOT!!!! :)

THE GUITARS ARE DONE... FOR NOW
August 20, 2000

The guitars are done!
At least the rythm part,we will see if there´s gonna be some changes but so far so good!

Niclas Granath

MURPHY'S BACK...
August 15, 2000

Never name a song Murphy’s Law, because it will turn out to exercise that law. It took me six hours to put the acoustic bit on tape. That’s all I have done so far. But I’m done very soon, I promise!
Then the solo guitar part starts, uuuhh!!!

/Niclas Granath

THE BASS IS DONE
August 13, 2000

This was the day. Together with Niclas and Kasper to goal was clear. We would not leave the studio until the bass was arranged exactly right, recorded and put on tape.
I took some time but finally I figured out the best way to play that damned song.
I finally beat “Murphy’s Law”. ;)

Now all of the bass is recorded, even though it's possible that I'll want to ad or change soma parts or that I'll have to tidy up some bits before the final mixing.

/Stefan Björnshög

THE STRUGGLE WITH MURPHY CONTINUES
August 5, 2000

Murphy’s Law is a great song but it’s real hard to get it exactly right.
Today it’s just me and Niclas rehearsing the song and working out the final arrangements, we hope, for the final recording of Murphy's Law.

/Stefan Björnshög

LIVING IN HARMONY
August 3, 2000

Hi Again!!
Today I've recorded some harmonizing stuff on the last songs, except the song called Murphy’s Law.

Next time I think I will have to record some extra dubs on some of the earlier recorded songs.

/Niclas Granath.

MURPHY'S LAW
July 30, 2000

One more song to go, "Murphy's Law".
I still don't get it right. Me and Kasper tried a few things but I'm not pleased with the result, even though it's getting closer.

This song sure deserves it's name. ;)
I'll have another go next weekend.

/Stefan Björnshög

THREE MORE FROM NICLAS
July 25, 2000

Another three songs are done!
As you already know I’ve been on a short vacation and that was wonderful the first tree days, then the rain started and my moms knee went out of order (I feel very sorry for her but she’s better now).
I don’t now what to tell you, I will record the rest of the songs next week that’s it.

Niclas Granath.

ONE MORE BASS TO GO...
July 23, 2000

Today both me and Kasper had a good relaxed feeling. The atmosphere was perfect for recording, still we took us time to start the day with a huge breakfast consisting of hamburgers and coffee. A lot of things was discussed before the actual recording started.
The first song was of course the completion of “Refugee”. Apart from one particular part the recording went real well. Finally the hard part was completed as well. This song will probably be the first on the album as it’s a real intense and heavy but still fast song, with a lot of groove. A real killer, I believe…

The next song was the faster variation of “The flying Dutchman”. This song was recorded real fast. There was hardly any problems at all. I can almost promise that we will use this faster variation on the album. The higher tempo suits the song perfectly.

Now there is only one song more to record bass for, “Murphy’s Law”. I have still not decided how to play my bass, so that song will have to wait until next weekend.

As Niclas is away on a short vacation he will not be able to record any guitars this week either.

/Stefan Björnshög

THE BASS MAN IS BACK
July 22, 2000

After a two week paus I’m back in the studio to record some more bass. The first thing me and Kasper did was to play back Niclas guitar parts and they sounded real good. He’s going to be a real asset to the new Destiny line up.
Now it was my turn again. I had decided to re record all of “Ghost Train” as I wasn’t happy at all with the last recording. It took some time but now everything sounded a lot better. This song has gone through a lot of changes since my original presentation and now I’m finally happy with it. Now it’s a lot faster and more intense. Niclas had record some of the guitar harmonies that we had talked about and they sound brilliant.

We also started to record a bit of “Refugee” but we didn’t finish it as Kasper had to leave for an other engagement, but that’s okay as we will have plenty of time tomorrow.

/Stefan Björnshög

NICLAS GRANATH IN GUITAR LAND
July 11, 2000

Finally I started!
After driving around town with guitar equipment, tape recorders, speakers and other stuff me and Kasper ended up at the studio. The first thing I did was to plug my power amp into the wall, it’s American and need 110W,in Sweden we have 220W so that thing said goodnight: I had to look over my shoulder and see if Spinal Tap was around again, but Anders and I have the same power amp’s so I borrowed his.

3hrs later I’ve done three song’s complete with rhythm guitars and some harmonizing playing. I’m really looking forward to continue my work on Monday

/Niclas Granath

Niclas relaxing after a good days work.

THE BASS CONTINUES
July 9, 2000

Once again I did the mistake of not eating before we started the recordings. Apart from that things went real smooth. After the recording of “Moon over Stygia” I was so hungry that I started to tremble. There was just one thing to do… I had to get food, lot’s of it.
Back in the studio again I was not in a very creative mood so we decided to make a mix of the seven songs, out of nine, that we had recorded so far. I’m not returning to the studio for two weeks now as I plan to visit my parents for my birthday. During these two weeks I will review the recordings and work on the bass for “Murphy’s Law”. I will return to the studio the 22:nd of July to hopefully record my final parts. Kasper, the engineer also plans to have a five day vacation during this period.

If Niklas is well enough he will record some guitars during this time.

/Stefan Björnshög

MORE BASS...
July 8, 2000

First the bad news. Niklas got real ill with a heavy fever and could not record any guitars yet.
Today it was once again just me and Kasper in the studio. First we reviewed last weeks recordings. I still feel the need to re record the bas for “Ghost Train” but decided to wait till the rest of the songs was done. Instead we preceded with “Sabotage” witch turned out real good now that I had the fatter strings.

The next song was “The flying Dutchman” witch we have recorded in two versions. I decided to go with the heavier version and it was a pretty fast session. It’s a very cool song with a haunted feel…

Before we called it a day we made a special mix of a song that Anders wrote called “Murphy’s law”. I have never played this song yet so I will bring the mix home so that I can’t work out my bass parts till the next time.

LAND OF THE BASS
July 3, 2000

Today I was going to pick up Kasper at his house but unfortunately he overslept. Not to repeat the mistake of yesterday of not eating before recording we stopped for some burgers on the way to the studio. I also managed to drink a bunch of red Bull’s before we finally started to record.
Today it was just me and Kasper in the studio witch proved to be a bit more efficient. I decided to skip “Sabotage” for now as I wanted to change to fatter strings before recording it. The first song we recorded was the title track f the album, "Future of the past". That went pretty well. Next up was a song currently called “Ghost Train”. I’m not sure if we will keep this recording, I didn’t have good feeling after the recording. I’ll have to listen to it again later in the week.

Time for a break and some fresh air. The next two songs we recorded are probably the songs that are a bit different from what you usually hear from Destiny, and I love them. The first one is called “In the shadow of the Rainbow” and the second one is called “The Forest”.

All in all things went pretty good, except for “Ghost Train” witch I have some reservations about. We’ll see…
The rest of the songs I will definitely record with different strings, fatter that is. Next up is some guitar from Niklas before I start with the rest of the songs next weekend.

HERE WE GO...
July 2, 2000

Today we started to work on the bass. After testing a few things we started to record a song called Sabotage. Unfortunately I wasn’t to pleased with what we achieved and decided to start over tomorrow. It was just one of those days when the inspiration wasn’t there.
Still it was good to se the guys again.

THE DRUMS ARE DONE
June 27, 2000

Today Birger recorded the drums for the two more tracks.
Finally, the drums are done. Definitely the best drums in the history of Destiny, so far.
Next is the bass witch we will start to record on Saturday. Until then we will take a well deserved break.

DRUMS FOR ONE MORE SONG
June 26, 2000

Today Birger had to replace some drum skins but we still managed to record the drums for one more song. Now we only have two left and then the drums are done, hopefully. Well, I'm sure we will record some additional percussion but that will wait until the bass and guitar are done.
Birger Löfman one the drums, once more...

BACK UP GUITAR AND BASS
June 25, 2000

Everyone was surprisingly well after the midsummer celebrations. Only Niklas had a small hangover...
After a small delay we managed to record the back up guitar and bass for the two songs that Birger wanted to record once more. He was probably right in the decision to record them again as I believe that the groove was a lot better this time.
Kasper also made a fast mix of what we had recorded so far, for me to listen to at home.

BIRGER GET'S A COLD
June 23, 2000

Unfortunately Birger came down with a heavy cold, but he still wanted to try some recording. We managed to record one more song and also to ad some extra percussion that sounds real cool.
Now we just have to record the drums for one more song. Still, Birger wasn't 100% pleased with the drums for two of the recordings so we decided to record those songs once more. One in a little slower tempo to get a better groove.
As everyone in Sweden is celebrating midsummer this weekend we decided to start these recordings on Sunday.

A NEW START...
June 22, 2000

The new tape recorders arrived today and Kasper had his hands full...
Most of the day was spent on the drum sound, again...
After some time everything was in order and Birger was ready for some new drum recordings but that had to wait until tomorrow.

EVEN MORE TROUBLE...
June 17, 2000

What is this? Spinal Tap? Today we arrived at noon, at least Kasper, Birger and Me. We where supposed to be rested and fit for fight but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…
Kasper was feeling real ill, Birger had to pick up his daughter in a couple of hours and I was just enormously tired. Anyway, we got on with the recording and actually managed to record the drums for one more song before yet an other tape recorder broke down in exactly the same way as the first one did a couple of days earlier. We got the message and decided to regroup on Wednesday or Thursday, By that time we should have two new tape recorders as well as a healthy engineer, Kasper that is.
Anyway, aside for the problems with the equipment and the pressure to finish Anders guitars in time I feel the recording have been a real success. I believe that Future of the Past will be a very, very very good Destiny album. :)

Here Birger is enjoying himself behind the drums.

MORE DRUMS...
June 16, 2000

Today we didn’t start to work until 10.00 in the morning. The time pressure was lost as Anders guitars where recorded, for this time. It was only Kasper, Birger and me in the studio. We decided to slow down and take our time and by five a clock we where done with the drums for two more songs. We had to re recorded the drums for one song that we where not pleased with. Unfortunately we also realised that one of Anders recordings had to be re recorded as well. This is not a big problem as he can do that the next time he will come to Gothenburg to record his guitar solos.
From now on we will take our time with the rest of the recordings to make sure that everything is 100% the way we want it. As it was Friday we also decided to start at noon the next day.

Before Anders had left the day before we managed to take the first picture of the new Destiny line up. Unfortunately Zenny Gram is not in the picture. The band from left to right; Birger Löfman, Stefan Björnshög, Niklas Granath and Anders Fagerstrand.

MORE TROUBLE...
June 15, 2000

Once again we arrived to the studio at eight in the morning. We were of course very tired as we hadn’t slept hardly anything. We also knew that we had to finish Anders guitars before five a clock. We managed to record his guitars for three songs before one of the tape recorders broke down. Fortunately Anders is an expert at repairing them so he managed to fix it, for the time being. However he will have to bring it to his workshop in Stockholm.
Time was running out and everybody was very tense. Now we only had one more song that he had to complete. Birger, Niklas and me recorded some basic backup for Anders and he managed to complete his work in time for his departure. It’s a curse to have a member in an other town. :(

We decided not to work anymore this day as we all needed to reload our batteries.
Here is Anders repairing on of the tape recorders.

DRUMS AND GUITARS
June 14, 2000

Today we started to work at eight in the morning, as we have done every day so far. We concentrated on recording the drums and by five in the afternoon we had recorded five tracks. Now we had to get going with Anders guitars.
Around one a clock in the middle of the night we had recorded his guitars for the five tracks. Our eyes were bleeding and our minds was tormented so we decided to continue next day. If we had continued we probably would have had to re record it the next day and we really needed to get some sleep.

Here is Anders, with his hair in a “nice” knot, recording some guitar.

FINALLY THE RECORDING STARTS
June 13, 2000

After even more work on the drum sound we finally got it right. It took quite some time but it was worth every minute as I believe that we got a real good drums sound.
Today we finally managed to record some drums as well as most backup bass and guitar.
Around noon Anders arrived as he was supposed to start to record his guitar parts today. After all the delays we all felt the time pressure. Unfortunately Anders could only stay in Gothenburg for three days so it was really depressing that it was no time to do any guitar work for him this day.

Here is Niklas while he was recording some backup guitar.

STILL THE DRUM SOUND
June 12, 2000

Lot’s of trouble today. First of all me and Niklas was stopped by the polis for no reason. Of course we were innocent but it delayed us.
When we finally arrived to the studio the drum sound still wasn’t perfect. Most of this day was dedicated to take care of the drums. I think we tried about a thousand ways of arranging the microphones for the best drum sound.

I also managed to get a real “cleaver” picture of myself. ;)

NIKLAS GRANATH ON THE GUITAR
June 11, 2000

Niklas Granath is a very good guitarist and a great guy. We have been playing with him for about a month or two. At the moment everything is working out and it's quite likely that he will become a permanent member of Destiny in the very near future (of the past).
I will now leave for the studio. Unfortunately I will not be able to access a computer until tomorrow. So there will not be any updates until at the earliest late (Swedish time) Monday night.

/Stefan Björnshög

KASPER HÅRD SOUND ENGINEER
June 11, 2000

Kasper Hård is the sound engineer that is working in Studio Destiny. He is very talented and have produced several albums. He has a great reputation and we hope that he is the man to bring out the best in Destiny for the new album.
/Stefan Björnshög

BIRGER LÖFMAN ON THE DRUMS
June 11, 2000

Birger Löfman is the new drummer in Destiny. Way back in the eighties he recorded two albums with a very good band called Biscaya. I have known him for a long time and it's great to have him in the band. He is definitely the most exiting drummer that have played with Destiny. I'm sure that he will impress you all with his skilful playing.
/Stefan Björnshög

THE DRUM SOUND
June 10, 2000

I have not been in the studio today as I have been home practising some of the difficult parts of the new songs. Birger and Kasper Hård, the sound engineer, have been there though. They were working on the sounds for the drums. After some difficulties they managed to get them to sound pretty much the right way . However, I'm sure that we will have to fix some things tomorrow.
Anders also managed to come by the studio and drop of some more microphones. I'm sure looking forward to get going on Monday as is the rest of the band.

PRE PRODUCTION
June 9, 2000

Finally it's time for a new Destiny album and as always some members have left and some new have arrived. The new Destiny line up consists of new drummer Birger Löfman, guitarist Anders Fagerstrand, Zenny Gram on vocals and myself on bass. We are also trying out a new guitarist called Niklas Granath. If everything works out during the recording of the album he will probably become a permanent member of Destiny.
Anders Fagerstrand's future in Destiny is uncertain as he now lives in Stockholm 500 kilometres away from the rest of the band who live in Gothenburg. This is very unfortunate as me and Anders have a great working relationship as well as personnel relationship. Anders will be featured on "Future of the Past" and then the band will have to take it from there...

After some time in the studio we are now done with the pre production of the new album "Future of the Past". At the moment we have eight new songs and they all sound great. Some of the songs will probably surprise you but don't worry, it's still very much Destiny. The actual recording of the album will start on Monday.

Until then we will try to figure out what can go wrong and so on…
